Diablo 4 Season 8, Please Stop Blindly Benchmarking Path Of Exile 2!
A few days ago, Blizzard, the developer of Diablo 4, announced that it would follow the example of POE 2 and increase the difficulty of exploration in the game, which caused dissatisfaction among many players because this was completely unrealistic.
Some time ago, Blizzard announced that it would benchmark Path of Exile 2 and increase the difficulty in Diablo 4 Season 8, which made many players difficult to accept. Because compared with other dungeon crawling RPG games, D4’s exploration difficulty is relatively low, and therefore, it has attracted many novice MMO players.
On the other hand, POE 2 has been claiming that its exploration difficulty will only be higher than the original since the early access was released on December 6 last year, which has selected a group of players with higher game levels from the beginning.
So from the beginning, this blind benchmarking is not realistic, and even if it is achieved, there will be many problems in the future. If you are interested in this, then continue to understand how D4 is going further and further on the road to death, and why it cannot reach the game difficulty of POE 2.
Diablo 4’s Positioning Is Not Clear Enough
Although Diablo 4 received a very good response when it was first released in June 2023, it has become less and less present in the current game market as the seasons change, and each season has not left a particularly deep impression on players.
And most importantly, the difficulty of D4 was very low from the beginning, causing many high-level players to complete all the campaigns and pass the endgame content test in a relatively short time, which makes these players completely lack immersion and fun in it.
Although POE 2 and D4 are essentially games with loot mechanisms, they cannot have the same game difficulty due to different farming methods and exploration game styles.
For example, the drop rate of loot in Diablo 4 is fixed, but the generation rate of POE 2 Currency is a range and can be scaled, which leads to the two games being inconsistent in the difficulty of farming loot, because the range probability will make you face more challenges.
Different Player Groups
In addition to the differences in the games themselves, D4 and POE 2 also have very different player groups. As just mentioned, D4 has attracted many novice players of action role-playing video games with very simple game content from the beginning, and steadily upgrades and explores in it.
And suddenly increasing the difficulty they have to face will cause players to not adapt. The most important thing is that many of the rewards worth looking forward to are hidden in tasks that can only be accessed by reaching a certain world level, and these high-difficulty game contents cannot allow these low- and medium-level Diablo 4 players to enjoy real fun.
As for POE 2, since the announcement of the sequel, GGG has publicly stated that the game difficulty of this sequel will be greater than the original, and it will be more suitable for the challenge of high-level players in the original. This makes the choice of a completely different player group from Diablo 4 at the beginning.
Although it is still uncertain whether Blizzard will try to solve the difficulty problem currently facing Diablo 4, one thing we can be sure of is that before they do so, Path of Exile 2 will be the first choice for more players.
