What Happens When You Die In Path Of Exile 2?

The consequences of death in Path of Exile 2 vary in different areas. But in any case, the game does not encourage the player's character to die in the game, so these areas have set up some cruel punishment mechanisms.

In many games, there is a “death penalty” mechanism. When you die, you lose something, which makes players try to avoid death as much as possible. In action loot games like Path of Exile 2, the death penalty has a great impact on players.

If you die in the campaign, you can immediately respawn at the nearest checkpoint. Or if you are exploring the end-game map, you will return to Ziggurat Refuge.

Death Consequences

What Happens When You Die In Path Of Exile 2?

When you die in the campaign and brutal difficulty, the enemies on the map will only reset, and new rare items will spawn. The layout of the map itself will not change. As long as you clear the enemies again, you can return to the place where you died. This is somewhat similar to Souls game.

However, the enemy reset on the map will cause all the drops on the map to disappear. If you and the boss die together, the boss will be considered dead, and all the items dropped on your screen will disappear, and you can’t get them back even if you go back.

The same mechanism also applies to bosses that reward permanent attribute upgrades. If you die with King in the Mists, you will not be able to obtain Spirit-boosting consumables and will need to start over and kill King in the Mists again.

You must be very careful to avoid death effects and enemies that spawn after killing a boss, so as not to lose powerful items that may drop after your death. If you see a POE 2 currency like Regal Orb, a high-tier Waystone, a Unique, or even a Divine Orb or Mirror of Kalandra among the boss’s drops after you die, you will regret it.

Also, in Hardcore, if your character dies, you will be forced to go to the standard realm and will no longer be able to participate in Hardcore mode. It is almost a “permadeath”.

Resetting Trials

Dying in the middle of a Trial is even more frustrating. If you die in Trial of the Sekhemas or the Trial of Chaos, Trial will be restarted from the beginning.

In Trial of the Sekhemas, as long as your Honor is not depleted, you have one more chance and enemies in the scene will respawn. However, once your Honor is depleted, you will fail Trial even if you don’t die.

Death in Trial of Chaos is particularly cruel, and it will all go back to square one. So you’d better be fully prepared before participating in Trial.

Endgame

In the endgame, after you complete the campaign and enter Atlas system, each death will have a new negative impact. If you die while unlocking Atlas map, you will lose 10% of the maximum XP 10%. If you only have 9% progress in your current XP bar, you will lose all your XP. This makes death in the endgame particularly frustrating.

Dying on the map will also destroy your Waystone. If you die too many times on this map, you will have to insert new Waystones to enter the map again.

The death penalty in Path of Exile 2 is very heavy, and players must be fully prepared before exploring the map.
