The highly anticipated Path of Exile 3.29 expansion has finally been officially announced for release on July 24th, and officially named Curse of the Allflame. An official livestream will be held on July 16th at 1 PM PDT to reveal everything about 3.29.
However, the official team is currently releasing preview content, and the latest trailer has already revealed several noteworthy details. For those eager to see more, follow along as I provide a detailed analysis of the latest trailer to help you prepare before the 3.29 launch.
Tidebreaker Rework

In the latest official trailer, there's a scene showing the Tidebreaker's attribute interface. Keen-eyed players may have noticed that the description differs slightly from the current version.
A Look Back at the Old Tidebreaker
Tidebreaker is a Unique Imperial Maul, currently a Tier 1 rarity weapon. In other words, it's a weapon you might only see a handful of times throughout the entire season.
The old Tidebreaker's core attributes included: 20 levels of Endurance Charge from socketed gems; Endurance Charge gained when stunned in melee combat; +40 Intelligence; add 70-80 to 340-375 Physical Damage; 10% Physical Damage per stack of Endurance Charge; and a 20-30% reduction in enemy stun threshold when using this weapon.
However, these attributes are not outstanding in the current game environment, leaving Tidebreaker in an awkward position where it was rarely used even when it dropped.
Highlights of Tidebreaker Rework
POE 3.29 expansion completely revamped Tidebreaker. The most notable change is the introduction of a new Charge type - Brine Charge.
Each Brine Charge provides players with 4% additional Physical Damage converted to Cold Damage and 4% additional Physical Damage converted to Lightning Damage. The maximum number of Brine Charges is equal to the maximum number of Endurance Charges, but the minimum number of Endurance Charges does not affect the minimum number of Brine Charges.
Furthermore, the revamped Tidebreaker retains the 20-level Endurance Charge bonus from socketed gems, as well as the global bonus of 10% physical damage per Endurance Charge. Overall, the revamped Tidebreaker's physical DPS is approximately 350, reaching around 420 with the Quality bonus, and further increased by the Endurance Charge damage, resulting in a final DPS of around 600.
Tidebreaker's Practical Role
Despite the new Brine Charge mechanic, Tidebreaker's overall strength remains only average. As an offensive weapon, its physical DPS is roughly equivalent to Kaom's Primacy. However, Kaom's Primacy is far less rare than Tidebreaker and can be easily obtained on the second day of PoE 3.29, making it the more cost-effective choice for players.
Some players have suggested utilizing the Tidebreaker's high physical damage, combined with Battlemage mechanic gained through class ascendancy, to convert weapon physical damage into spell damage. However, Disintegrator, with its built-in Battlemage effect and chaos damage bonus, performs better overall. More importantly, Disintegrator drops from targeted bosses, while Tidebreaker remains a random drop across the entire map, making them vastly different in difficulty.
In conclusion, the core value of Tidebreaker's rework lies not in the weapon itself, but in its significance as the sole source of Brine Charge. Unless new equipment or talents synergize with Brine Charge appear in future versions, Tidebreaker will likely remain a collectible.
Animate Guardian UI Rework
If Tidebreaker rework was just an appetizer, then Animate Guardian's UI rework is the real main course of today's preview.
Animate Guardian Recap
Animate Guardian is a summoning ability in Path of Exile - players can equip designated gear to an ethereal guardian that will fight for them. A well-equipped Guardian can provide a powerful Aura, Curse, or defensive bonus to the team.
However, Animate Guardian has long suffered from a fatal flaw: you can't visually see what gear your Guardian is currently wearing. Players have to rely on third-party tools or their memory to track it down.
Worse still, it carries a high risk of accidental activation. If you accidentally cast a spell on a Guardian already equipped with expensive items, the old gear will be permanently overwritten and cannot be recovered. Therefore, for new players, if their Guardian isn't performing as expected, they have no idea where the problem lies, and may even waste gear and Path of Exile currency already invested in rerolling affixes.
Solution in 3.29 Expansion
According to the trailer, Path of Exile 3.29 introduces a separate gear interface for Animate Guardian. This interface is similar to the previous Mercenaries gear panel, allowing players to directly view all the gear their Guardian is currently wearing, thus eliminating accidental gear overwriting.
The trailer even showcased a Guardian wearing both Rare and Unique gear, a rarity in the current version. This detail might suggest a wider range of gear options for Animate Guardian in 3.29.
In-Game Description System
An easily overlooked detail in the trailer is the addition of a clickable mechanic description system. This feature first appeared in Path of Exile 2 and appears to be present in 3.29 as well.
Specifically, when you see underlined keywords in item or skill descriptions, such as Endurance Charge or Brine Charge, you can hover your mouse over them and click. A detailed built-in description box will pop up, explaining the specific effects of the mechanic.
For a long time, PoE has been known for its complex mechanics, often requiring new players to switch between the game and Wikipedia. With the in-game description system, newcomers can instantly look up the meaning of terms within the game, significantly lowering the learning curve.
This is also significant for returning players. If you've been away for a while and then return, you might have missed some major changes to certain mechanics. For example, Endurance Charge no longer provides 4% all Elemental Resistance per stack; instead, it provides 4% Elemental Damage Reduction per stack. If you missed the update announcement, the in-game information can help you quickly catch up.
In summarizing the latest POE 3.29 teaser, we can clearly see that the studio has taken a solid step towards making the game more fun and easier to play. Let's look forward to 3.29 to see the full details!
